Savvy Foundation Color Matching

October 5, 2017

To select your shade or shades you first need to determine if you are Dark, Warm or Cool.

Dark would be for women with darker skin.

1 Foundations are lightest… 2 Foundations are medium… 3 and 4 Foundations are darkest.

If you are undecided if you are Warm or Cool, here are some helpful hints from Royal Crown Diamond, April Pointer:

  1. Check Your Veins — Push your sleeves up and look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Are they blue or green? If they look more blue, you likely have cool undertones. If the veins look greenish, you’re warm.
  2. The Jewelry Trick — Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewelry Typically, ladies with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold.
  3. The Neutral Test — Think about what neutral shades flatter you best. Does your skin, eyes, and face look better in bright white and black hues, or ivory, off-whites, and brown/tan shades? The first means you’re probably cool-toned, and the latter, warm.
  4. Eye and Hair Color — Your natural eye and hair colors can help figure out your coloring. Customarily, cool people have eyes that are blue, gray, or green and have blond, brown, or black hair with blue, silver, violet and ash undertones. Conversely, warm-toned women usually have brown, amber, or hazel eyes with strawberry blond, red, brown, or black hair. Their hair tends to have gold, red, orange, or yellow undertones.
  5. The Sun’s Effects — When you’re out in the sun, does your skin turn a golden-brown, or does it burn and turn pink first? If you fit into the first category, you’re warm-toned, while cool tones tend to burn.

Still not sure? Here are some more tips from Kathi Glaze Williams:

If you know your seasonal colors, then this may help you.
Basically, there are light and dark cools and light and dark warms. Light and dark cools are summer and winters.

  • Winters are dark cools and tend to have rich and intense hair and eye colors and look great in bolder shades like black and red.
  • Summers are light cools and look best in pastel shades like rose, periwinkle and sage. Your coloring tends to be more delicate.
  • Autumns are dark warms and look beautiful in the fall colors of moss, rust and terracotta. Think about leaves and spices.
  • Springs are light warms (ME!) Best colors are ones that match our eyes but we love to wear turquoise, watermelon and salmon.

One more tip! Gold is warm and Silver is cool. If you have a piece of fabric, like a shawl, wrap yourself in it and see which one makes you look better. Which color evens out your skin tones and make your eyes stand out?
What foundation tone you are?

Check out Tina's video on matching foundations! Sometimes it is easier to hear someone describe how to match rather than read. If you have questions, post your picture in the comments and we'll do our best to help! <3

** Don’t be afraid to mix foundation colors! If a 3 is too dark, mix it with a 1 to lighten it up. Having multiple foundation colors works well so you can adjust your color for summer (when you’re tanner) and winter (when you’re more fair).
** Don’t match the foundation color on the arm or neck. Match it on the jawline/neck. If it blends, you’ve got it! You don’t want to see it!
** If you have hyper-pigmentation or uneven skin tone, go one shade darker. It’s OK to do multiple layers to get the coverage you need!

Basic Foundation Instructions:
• Spray 2–3 pumps of Misting Spray onto a makeup brush and gently wipe off any excess moisture on the back of your hand.
• Tap foundation minerals into the foundation cap.
• Pick up mineral makeup using the brush.
• Apply mineral makeup to your face in desired area in gentle circular motions and reapply layers as needed to get the coverage you want.

Watch this tutorial on how to apply the foundation so you quickly become an expert and see how easy it is to apply! Savvy Minerals by Young Living Foundation Tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux4fhQGgffs

Q: How can I keep all the minerals from falling out of the jar when I tap them into the cap?
A: Instead of taking the white sticker off the mineral makeup.....use a safety pin to poke holes in the sticker so it's less messy and you don't waste any! Or… use an exacto knife to make a cut into the sticker so you only remove HALF of the sticker. That way, less powder will come out when you turn it over to see what product you're using :)

Q: What about concealer?
A: If you prime your whole face with ART Renewal Serum and then ART Light Moisturizer, you will get really good flawless coverage you won’t need concealer. Use an extra dab of foundation on those areas you need a little extra coverage.

Q: I prefer liquid/tinted foundation. What do you recommend?
A: Take 1-2 pumps of ART Light Moisturizer, or a little scoop of SheerLume, ART Intensive Moisturizer or Wolfberry Eye Cream and mix foundation powder to make a liquid/cream foundation. OR… try using the Renewal Serum, ART Light Moisturizer and layering method after misting your brush 3 times with the Misting Spray.
Another option: watch the first 4 minutes of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKS9aJVUfxw

Q: How can I cover dark under-eye circles?
A: You can use a lighter foundation color in this area…"Bake it on" by applying a dry layer of powder and letting it sit for a few minutes before applying foundation with one spritz of the misting spray to blend, then applying normally. You’ll also want to start using the Wolfberry Eye Cream or Sheerlume on your under-eye area daily as part of your skincare routine.
